Twenty years after founding her Maison and pioneering the signature of diamonds in motion, Messika Founder and Creative Director Valérie Messika continues to shape the brand’s contemporary visual language. With Moderniste, she explores an aesthetic of contrasts — powerful yet precise, graphic yet filled with light. The collection draws inspiration from Modernism, the artistic movement that introduced a new language rooted in innovation, structure, and the purity of line. Drawing on this legacy, Messika conceives jewelry as an essential form entirely anchored in the present.
Moderniste is rooted in the principles of Modernist architecture, where structure prevails over ornament and volume reveals itself through light. Le Corbusier and Eileen Gray, leading figures of the movement, sought beauty in essentials: pure lines, balanced proportions, and rigorous geometry. This vision continues today through the minimalism of Tadao Ando, the sculptures of Bernar Venet, the geometry of Sonia Delaunay, and Olafur Eliasson’s work with light. Through a hexagonal form with exact proportions, Moderniste captures this pursuit of fundamental and pure lines.
“Diamonds have always been central to my life, but I wanted to explore gold as a material in its own right. I envisioned a jewel conceived as sculpture, not ornament, existing in three dimensions. The purity and strength of Modernist architecture guided me in the creation of Moderniste,” says Valérie Messika.
The Moderniste collection is available in yellow, white, and rose gold with polished, brushed, or diamond-pavé finishes. Anchored by its signature bangle, the line expands into rings, earrings, and necklaces, including a torque necklace and a tie necklace featuring a diamond inlay that slides with exacting precision. Each piece translates Messika’s signature interplay of movement and light into an architectural form designed for the body.
With this collection, Messika reimagines gold as a sculptural material: faceted, dimensional, and crafted with diamond-like precision. Moderniste exists through a dialogue between form and light — pure in line, powerful in presence. At the crossroads of circle and square, the jewel reveals its own character, expressing inner strength through geometry and the savoir-faire of Messika’s ateliers. A subtle asymmetrical pyramid completes each creation, echoing the Maison’s iconic signature of diamonds in motion.
Although gold takes center stage, diamonds remain an essential part of the collection. Together, the materials intensify one another’s brilliance and depth. Polished and brushed finishes create different vibrations of light, revealing the distinct character of each piece.
Moderniste’s geometry brings masculine and feminine energies into balance, combining strength and sensitivity. The circle softens the lines, while angles introduce tension and character. Polished and brushed gold alternate across the surfaces, creating a play of light and shadow. Here, light does not decorate the form — it reveals it and emphasizes its volume.
When laid flat, the bangle is perceived both as jewelry and as an independent object — beyond traditional categories, created for every identity and every individual.
