From the Mouths of Babes Shall Come the Truth
Adulthood often arrives quietly and fast – it might happen in an hour, a minute, a day, or it may take years to grow up and take responsibility for yourself. One day you’re calculating how much you need to save to get the leather jacket that you are dreaming of; the next, you’re budgeting for groceries, petrol, house bills, and children’s school fees. Yet, despite the responsibilities that life brings, I still feel like a child at heart and easily get excited and disappointed – which is both a blessing and a burden. There’s a unique kind of freedom in being an adult who hasn’t entirely let go of their inner child. Wonder still colours everyday life – I stare at clouds looking for sheep, cry while watching The Lion King, and greet each birthday with the same wide-eyed excitement. This childlike curiosity often fuels creativity and resilience. In a world burdened by cynicism, being able to be surprised and feel like the whole life is still ahead of you is a joy to the soul. This playfulness can be a rare and powerful strength even in very serious situations. But being a grown-up kid isn’t always easy. The same idealism that brings joy can clash with reality. People may expect unwavering seriousness even if you are responsible and grounded at heart. This could lead to moments of self-doubt or embarrassment when my youthful spirit surfaces and takes over. Still, I believe the key lies in balance. Embracing the lightness of childhood doesn’t mean rejecting maturity – it means enhancing it. After all, the best people are the ones who can laugh, dream, be creative without a limit, believe in miracles, and still show up for life’s toughest moments and take control.
