In 2024, the Villeroy & Boch boutique in Baku marks a significant milestone, celebrating the long-standing partnership between the renowned European brand and Azerbaijan, which began with its opening in 1999. Italdizain, still proudly representing the iconic Villeroy & Boch porcelain in the country, played a pivotal role as both the initiator and a key participant in this collaboration.
A partnership spanning a quarter of a century is a symbol of true mutual respect and an example of a reliable business and creative alliance. For a brand with a venerable history such as Villeroy & Boch, this is particularly significant. “In Italdizain, we have found a reliable and time-tested partner. For 25 years, our collaboration has been based on mutual trust and shared values, helping us achieve the highest standards in serving our customers in Azerbaijan,” emphasizes Andreas Schoenfelder, Villeroy & Boch’s Sales Director. It is symbolic that a year earlier, the brand itself celebrated a significant milestone: the company turned 275 years old.
The family porcelain workshop was founded in 1748 by Lorraine native Francois Boch, an enterprising court steelmaker and royal bombardier. Porcelain tableware quickly gained recognition due to its high quality, exquisite design, and relative accessibility to a broad audience. Francois and his sons soon grasped the intricacies of porcelain manufacture and the family business became a successful enterprise. About three hundred years later, it blossomed into a brand with a solid history and one of the world’s porcelain art trendsetters with products represented in 125 countries worldwide. Since 1999, Azerbaijan has also been on that list.
The Azerbaijanis saw firsthanded the outstanding products of the legendary European manufactory when Italdizain opened the brand’s first boutique in Baku. The range of elegant porcelain items — vases and dinner sets, coffee and tea pairs — has expanded sevenfold over a quarter of a century and the boutique itself has grown significantly in size and even opened a second outlet.
Villeroy & Boch’s exquisite masterpieces have found loyal admirers and fans in Azerbaijan. The company was able to not just build a customer base but real friendships with its buyers based on mutual trust, respect, and shared values.
“In Azerbaijan, people are very family-oriented, which is reflected in the decors they choose. Our classic collections such as Audun and French Gardens are in particular demand here,” adds Andreas Schoenfelder.
In Italdizain, the German manufactory has found a reliable, time-tested partner it can count on in any situation. The development of artistic taste, the expansion of aesthetic horizons, and immersion in the history of porcelain art are goals and benchmarks that have brought Italdizain and Villeroy & Boch together for many years.
The partners have jointly arranged and implemented dozens of collaborative projects, table-setting master classes, as well as educational and informative events dedicated to applied art history and modern table-setting trends. Among the most significant events is the collaboration with talented artist Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, who developed an exclusive mug design as part of the famous New Wave series in honor of the brand’s 270th anniversary.
In the year of its 275th anniversary, Villeroy & Boch invited well-known Azerbaijani influencers to visit the manufactory in Mettlach, Germany, allowing them to not only immerse in the brand's rich history but also personally witness and appreciate the meticulous and masterful work of local artisans.
The traditional New Year tree decoration in the square in front of the Maiden Tower with Villeroy & Boch porcelain plate-shaped decor has become an integral part of the winter holidays in Baku. Every year, the tree’s design is updated, bringing joy and festive cheer to the city's residents and guests. In December 2024, this tradition will continue with a new collection of New Year tree decorations.
We invite you to visit Villeroy & Boch boutiques and get acquainted with the exquisite collections of the German porcelain manufactory, including tableware and accessories that will adorn your interior or make a wonderful gift for your loved ones and friends.
